Baby I Like It the Way You Move on the Floor Oh Yes I Like It
Motion picture this: You've orchestrated the perfect at-dwelling appointment for your pregnant other, featuring candles, wine, and a lovingly habitation-cooked (or lovingly ordered via app) dinner. But just as your person texts you that they're on their manner, you realize that you lot have no idea what sort of music to play to retain the romantic ambient. Subsequently all, y'all can't have your early on 2000s guilty pleasance songs come up up on shuffle while you lot're trying to stare lovingly into your partner's eyes (nothing ruins the mood similar the distinctive "youuuuuu" at the beginning of "Soulja Male child." And yes, that case is based on a true story).
Anyway, I've got you covered with my list of the most beautiful, hopeful, and achingly romantic songs ever written (in my humble opinion). You'll have your beat out/partner/Bumble date swooning.
"ROS" - Mac Miller
Well-nigh romantic lyrics: "I'one thousand in your heart, I'm in your dream/ So fuck the world information technology's you lot and me"
Rationale: When the outside world becomes fell, many couples plough inward and develop that the states-against-the-earth mindset. In "ROS," Mac Miller captures what it'southward similar to feel shut to someone, spending much of this song describing the little things he loves about his partner, like her "stained glass" eyes, butterscotch-scented skin, and kiwi-flavored lips. The lyrics are intimate in every way, and Mac delivers them with his characteristic rawness.
"These Arms of Mine" - Otis Redding
Well-nigh romantic lyrics: "These arms of mine, they are lonely/ Lonely and feeling blue/ These arms of mine, they are yearning/ Yearning from wanting yous"
Rationale: This song hits me right in the chest. It'south impossible not to feel your artillery and breast agonized like Reddings' when he sings about burning to hold his lover. The music crescendos effectually his polish voice as he begs, "And if you would let them hold you/ Oh, how grateful I would be." It'southward such a sweet, earnest plea for dearest, and its focus on physicality is pretty sexy, too.
"Ex Factor" - Lauryn Loma
Virtually romantic lyrics: "See, no one loves y'all more than than me/ and no one ever will"
Rationale: No one knows how to obliterate me emotionally quite like Lauryn Hill does. In "Ex Factor" (and on this whole album, let's be real), she'south vulnerable, baring all her devotion to her beau. We recognize straightaway that her relationship is toxic, merely Hill's honesty is so beautiful that we humble listeners have no pick just to sit, transfixed, and listen.
"Skinny Honey" - Bon Iver
Well-nigh romantic lyrics: "Told my love to wreck it all/ Cut out all the ropes and let me fall"
Rationale: When this song came out in 2007, I was in heart school. I could not cease singing it as I traipsed through my house, near-tears as I crooned nigh "the sink of blood and crushed veneer," as though my twelve years on earth had been rife with tragic love affairs.
Yet, this song even so holds upwards. Bon Iver is a chief at depicting what it'southward like to fully surrender yourself to someone while aware that they may injure yous in the finish. I still sing this song while I lounge effectually my little studio apartment, cartoon on existent-life experiences this fourth dimension, though I assure yous that none of them involved blood-filled sinks or crushed veneers.
"Leather and Lace" - Stevie Nicks & Don Henley
Almost romantic lyrics: "Lovers forever, face up to face/ My city, your mountains/ Stay with me, stay/ I need you to dearest me/ I need you today/ Give me to me your leather, take from me my lace"
Rationale: This is Stevie Nicks' lyricism at its most poignant. She wrote "Leather and Lace" herself and and so performed information technology with Don Henley (of The Eagles) while they were dating. This duet is beautiful in and of itself, but their chemistry and passion for each other makes it all the more than impactful. An ex played this for me once, unprompted, and I call up thinking, My God, dude. Why would you do this to me?
Wrecked.
The Way You Look This evening" - Frank Sinatra
Most romantic lyrics: "Lovely, never, never change/ keep that breathless charm/ won't you lot delight arrange it?/ 'Crusade I dear you lot/ Just the fashion you await tonight"
Rationale: Ah, yes. The song that plays at every wedding on globe. Popular songs are popular for a reason, though, and this 1 endures because of the accepting, unconditional sort of love that information technology depicts. In addition to Sinatra's version, I'chiliad likewise partial to Fred Astaire's rendition in the 1936 film Swing Fourth dimension and the sugariness yet tongue-in-cheek visuals go on with it.
"Everlasting Light" - The Black Keys
Near romantic lyrics: "Allow me be your everlasting lite/ Your railroad train going abroad from pain/ Love is the coal that makes this train roll/ Permit me exist your everlasting low-cal"
Rationale: If yous read the lyrics without the music, the whole song sounds kind of like a tardily nineteenth century poem. The love in this song is then pure and hopeful, and you'll definitely gain cool-points by playing The Black Keys on a offset date.
"To Know Him Is To Dear Him" - Amy Winehouse
Most romantic lyrics: "To know, know, know him/ Is to honey, dearest, love him/ Merely to see that smile/ Makes my life worthwhile"
Rationale: No one does unbridled love like Amy Winehouse. Her soulful vox takes center stage in this Phil Spector cover, and if yous're not already in honey, it will brand you desire to be.
"Like Real People Do" - Hozier
Virtually romantic lyrics: "I will non ask you lot where you came from/ I volition non ask you, neither should you/ Honey, just put your sugariness lips on my lips/ We should simply kiss like existent people exercise"
Rationale: Here, Hozier is trying to convince his love interest to forget that they both have pasts (who doesn't?) and to just love him. In that location'southward a sense that both people in the song consider themselves odd in some mode (again, who doesn't?), and that they've been searching for partners like each other for ages. "Similar Existent People Exercise" reminds us of how miraculous it feels to love and be loved back.
"Can't Take My Eyes Off Yous" - Franki Valli & The Four Seasons
Nigh romantic lyrics: "You're just too good to be true/ Can't take my optics off of you/ You'd be similar heaven to touch/ I wanna concur you then much"
Rationale: To quote every Boomer from my home land of New Jersey: They just don't brand 'em like this anymore. And it'south truthful―this song manages to balance emotional and sexual yearning without being rough.
And just... the gratitude Valli feels when he sings about loving his girl and then much that he thanks God he's live. My Lord. They really just exercise not make 'em quite like this anymore.
"Forrest Gump" - Frank Ocean
Nigh romantic lyrics: "My fingertips and my lips/ They fire from the cigarettes/ Forrest Gump, you lot run my mind, boy/ Running on my heed, male child"
Rationale: This is Frank Body of water'southward most criminally underrated song and I will fight anyone who has anything negative to say about it. In fact, I once made a very loud, spirited defense of this song when I was in high schoolhouse, correct after Ocean's ill-received performance of it at the 2013 Grammys.
The song is told from the perspective of Jenny in the 1994 film Forrest Gump. It's about a cleaved, tired person coming back to their pure, enduring dear after a great bargain of time has passed. Information technology'due south particularly meaningful, in my opinion, because Body of water penned the song in the wake of his very public coming-out.
"Take Me The Way I Am" - Ingrid Michaelson
Most romantic lyrics: "'Crusade I dearest yous more than than I could ever promise/ And you take me the way I am"
Rationale: What a throwback! Ingrid Michaelson was responsible for some of the sweetest manic-pixie-dream-girl love songs of the early 2000s, and this one was her nigh popular. Michaelson rejoices in having found a partner who loves her, flaws and all, and she responds in kind, promising to repair what her partner breaks and buy him Rogaine when his hair starts falling out. Information technology'due south a hope to dearest someone forever.
"I'm Not Dead" - P!nk
Most romantic lyrics: "Correct beyond the cigarette and the devilish smile/You're my scissure of sunlight/ Y'all can do the math a thou ways/ But you lot tin can't erase the facts/ That others come and others go/ But you lot e'er come up dorsum"
Rationale: This is my favorite era of P!nk's music. In "I'm Not Dead," she writes a frank, unapologetic love song virtually being a flawed human securely in love with some other flawed human. Waxing poetic nearly her and her swain's (her future husband, Cary Hart, by the manner) tattoos and alluding to her ain mental affliction, P!nk eschews all tired clichés almost love in favor of something far more authentic and affecting.
"Hannah Hunt" - Vampire Weekend
Most romantic lyrics: "A man of faith said hidden eyes could run across what I was thinkin'/ I only smiled and told him/ That was merely truthful of Hannah"
Rationale: Oh, Ezra Koenig, how you wound me with your beautiful words! In this song, our narrator seems to be moving around the U.South. with his dear Hannah until she grows homesick for the eastward coast. Having lived in New England for around seven years, I'm partial to this song for its "freezing beaches" references, simply information technology'due south also a gentle tribute to the style time glides away when y'all're with someone you dearest.
"A Song For You" - Donny Hathaway
Most romantic lyrics: "I honey you in a identify/ Where there'south no space or time/ I dearest y'all for my life/ Yous're a friend of mine/ And when my life is over/ Call up when we were together"
Rationale: There have been many versions of this song, but this one'due south my favorite. It was also Amy Winehouse'southward favorite. Donny Hathaway sings this with such feeling that one tin't help but feel he'due south reciting a memoir when he sings his amends to a woman he neglected to settle down with because he was as well busy performing around the world.
"Maps" - Yep Yeah Yeahs
Near romantic lyrics: "Don't stray/ My kind'southward your kind/ I'll stay the aforementioned."
Rationale: Aye, this vocal is 90 percent but Karen O singing "Look, they don't love you like I love you," only it'south so powerful! If you say something the correct style, and the accompanying music is good enough, there's no need to embellish much more. Proof: Beyoncé clearly nods to this song in her 2016 single "Concur Upward." "Maps" endures, over a decade later, across genres.
"If I Ain't Got Y'all" - Alicia Keys
Most romantic lyrics: "Some people want diamond rings/ Some just want everything/ Merely everything means nothing/ If I ain't got you"
Rationale: This song is all the more touching when you recall that she wrote it just as she was beginning to go famous. She promises that her renown―the fruit of all her labor―along with promises of riches, jewelry, or endless life would all hateful nothing if she didn't have her human being.
"Pine Tree Lines" - Told Camber
Almost romantic lines: "I am the girl my parents made/ Why don't y'all dearest me anyway/ 'Cause I honey the style you accept up infinite"
Rationale: Devastating genius. Pb vocalist Felix Walworth delivers this song and then earnestly that his phonation literally cracks during that last line. I've never heard a simpler or more than startlingly authentic depiction of adoration than loving the way someone takes up space.
"Inevitable" - Shakira
Most romantic lyrics: "To exist even more honest/ No one thinks about you/ The way I exercise" (Translated from Spanish)
Rationale: Shakira spends most of this song laying out all her imperfections―that she doesn't know how to make coffee, that she doesn't understand soccer, that she oversleeps, etc.―and and then proceeds to ask her man to dearest her anyway.
"I Found You" - Alabama Shakes
Most romantic lyrics: "I remember all them alone days/ I traveled out on my own/ Then y'all brought me everything/ You made my house a home"
Rationale: This is a celebration of finally finding your person. So who better to listen to it with than your person? Romantic, indeed.
"Rag Doll" - Franki Valli & The Four Seasons
Most romantic lines: "I'd modify her distressing rags/ Into glad rags if I could/ My folks won't permit me/ 'Cause they say that she'due south no good."
Rationale: Another Iv Seasons song, yeah. I'thousand from Jersey. Sue me.
Franki Valli declares his unconditional love for a girl much poorer than he is, fantasizing virtually replacing her tattered clothes with lace and finery. In spite of her poverty, he ends the song past crying, "I dearest you just the way you are."
He wants to give everything to someone who can offer him nothing material. All he wants is her.
"Since I've Been Loving You" - Led Zeppelin
Near romantic lyrics: "But baby, since I've been loving you, yep/ I'm about to lose my worried mind/ Oh, aye"
Rationale: Human being, these lyrics await then underwhelming when written downward sans musical accompaniment. It's tragic.
What makes this vocal and so romantic, to me, is the organ and bass work by John Paul Jones pair with Robert Plant's searing vocals. It'southward a power blues vocal that hits you right in the gut. If desperate want were a audio, this would be it.
"You Got Me" - Erykah Badu and The Roots
Well-nigh romantic lines: "If you don't worry 'bout where/ I been or who I saw or/ What club I went to with my homies/ Baby, don't worry, you know that yous got me"
Rationale: I cried when I saw this live. Erykah reassures her boyfriend during the chorus that she'll ever be loyal to him, while Black Thought (atomic number 82 MC of The Roots) uses his verses to tell the story of a lifelong romance. It's the best love vocal in hip hop, hands downwardly.
"(You lot Make Me Experience Like) A Natural Woman - Aretha Franklin
Near romantic lyrics: "When my soul was in the lost and found/ Y'all came along to merits it/ I didn't know just what was wrong with me/ 'Til your osculation helped me name it"
Rationale: We should heal ourselves rather than expect around for someone to heal u.s.a., but that doesn't mean that love tin't be a healing feel. Information technology's actually romantic to thank someone for making y'all feel expert, and that'due south precisely what this song (written by the flawless Carole Male monarch) is well-nigh.
"Jade" - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Near romantic lyrics: "Nosotros tin't assistance just follow, she'due south Buddha, just sentry her/ She moves like an old gypsy adult female but swears she's a girl/ And all that she asks we'll allow her/ For Jade is the girl of the hour"
Rationale: Alex Ebert wrote this song for Jade Castrinos when they were both still dating and yet the frontpeople of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The vocal is a quiet love alphabetic character to Castrinos―y'all could imagine Ebert singing it to her at night by the campfire while the balance of the ring is asleep (that's this band's vibe, really). Information technology'southward a shame that we no longer become to sentry the sweet relationship betwixt these talented musicians, but at to the lowest degree we'll always have this hippie love song.
"Wild Horses" - The Rolling Stones
Nearly romantic lyrics: "Graceless lady/ You know who I am/ Y'all know I can't permit you/ Slide through my hands/ Wild horses/ Couldn't drag me away"
Rationale: 1 of the wildest bands of the '60s and '70s also happened to write 1 of the most poignant songs virtually love and devotion. This is about a long, deep intimacy between ii people, and of beingness physically unable to resist the person you adore.
"Jim Bogart" - The Front Bottoms
Nearly romantic lyrics: "I would sleep better on your floor/ Than I would ever in my bed/ And if your carpet makes my confront itch/ Information technology'd still be heaven in my head"
Rationale: "Jim Bogart" opens with the above lyrics, sung with lead singer Brian Sella's signature raw vocals. He abandons all pride in his honey for this girl, promising to practice his guitar every nighttime, to sleep on her floor without complaint, and to to ignore his doctor'southward advice―all to win her love. We shouldn't have to debase ourselves for beloved (*rolls eyes* yeah, yep yeah), just this is fine art. And if we're being honest, this sentiment is relatable for anyone who's prayed for their dear to exist reciprocated.
"Loving You lot" - Elvis Presley
About romantic lyrics: "If I'm seen with someone new/ Don't be blueish, don't you lot be blue/ I'll be faithful, I'll exist true/ Always true, truthful to you"
Rationale: Elvis tells his love not to become jealous or to believe the hype around him and other women, reassuring her that she'due south the ane for him. Although multiple sources have claimed that Elvis did, indeed, cheat on his wife, Priscilla, this remains his sweetest love vocal.
"Melissa" - The Allman Brothers Ring
Most romantic lyrics: "Knowing many, loving none/ Bearin' sorrow, havin' fun/ But back home he'll always run/ To sweetness Melissa"
Rationale: Hither, the Allman Brothers sing about a traveling musician who tin't get over his sweetheart no matter how many other women he meets. She always ends upward resurfacing in his heed, and somewhen, he always returns to her.
"My One-time Human being" - Joni Mitchell
Most romantic lyrics: "He's my sunshine in the morning/ He'southward my fireworks at the end of the day/ He's the warmest chord I ever caput/ Play that warm chord, play and stay, baby"
Rationale: Mitchell's soaring mezzo-soprano meanders through a portrait of her human relationship in this vocal, insisting throughout that, "We don't need no piece of paper from the metropolis hall." She's saying that she doesn't need external validation of the relationship―this man gives her all she needs to feel secure in their bond.
"Devil In a New Clothes" - Kanye West, Rick Ross
Near romantic lyrics: "Put your hands to the constellations/ The way you look should be a sin, you my sensation"
Rationale: Kanye West is a pretty polarizing figure, but this is withal one of my favorite albums of all time. Information technology's a bloodshot tribute to his infamous relationship with Amber Rose, and this song encapsulates the often-sexy, always-complicated connectedness between two people who aren't good for each other, yet tin can't stay away from one another.
"Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip Hop)" - Erykah Badu, Common
Most romantic lyrics: "But that is all backside me/ 'Cause now there is no other/ My love is his and his is mine/ A friend became the/ Love of my life"
Rationale: Conventional advice tells us to fall in love with someone who can exist our friend, too. This song is about ii lifelong best friends who observe their way back to each other afterwards time spent autonomously. With her famously beguiling vocalization, Erykah Badu captures the joy of being truly known past one'due south partner.
"A Lord's day Kind of Honey" - Etta James
Most romantic lyrics: "I want a Dominicus kind of honey/ A beloved to last by Sat night/ I want to know it's more than beloved at start sight"
Rationale: Nosotros've all been at this point before. If Etta James were to have written this song today, she would accept been explaining that she was sick of 1-night-stands and Tinder/Bumble/Hinge dates that go nowhere. She'd be saying she was tired of sweaty strangers in confined shouting into her ear, over deafening music, asking if she wants to have a shot.
Instead, she'd want something substantial. Someone to relax and binge Schitt's Creek reruns with on the weekends.
May we all find that Dominicus kind love.

"Babe I'm Yours" - Arctic Monkeys
Most romantic lyrics: "Baby, I'm yours/ And I'll be yours until the stars autumn from the sky/ Yours until the rivers all run dry/ In other words, until I die"
Rationale: This song sounds similar information technology was written in the '50s or '60s. In some ways, it's your run-of-the-manufactory boring song, but there'southward something charming about the Chill Monkeys being the ones to perform this retro pledge of devotion.
"She Will Exist Loved" - Maroon 5
Virtually romantic lyrics:"I don't mind spendin' everyday / Out on your corner in the pourin' rain"
Rationale:I recall listening to this song in heart school, wishing that the boy I had a crush on would love me plenty to stand outside my window in the rain. In retrospect, that would have been awkward and inconvenient to explicate to my female parent, and these days I would probably find such behavior creepy (when I'thousand in my pajamas in my flat, peacefully eating Takis and watching The Sopranos, the last thing I need is a man continuing outside, watching me from the street like something out of The Exorcist), but the sentiment of this song still stands.
"Because the Dark" - Patti Smith
Virtually romantic lyrics: "Come on, now, try and understand/ The manner I experience when I'm in your hands/ Take my hand, come up hush-hush/ They can't hurt yous now"
Rationale: In this song, which was originally written by lyrical legend Bruce Springsteen, Smith promises her lover that he'due south safe with her. If you've read Smith's volume Just Kids, you'll probably heed to this song and think of her and Robert Mapplethorpe singing and dancing to information technology down the streets of lower Manhattan.

"La Vie En Rose" - Edith Piaf
Most romantic lyrics: "When he holds me in his arms/ And he speaks to me softly/ I see the world through rose-colored glasses" (Translated from French)
Rationale: You definitely know this song. It's the go-to for every romantic scene in every American movie about France. And, granted, it's a corking pick for a dinner date, especially if you lot want to get a piddling slow dancing started.
"Someday" - The Growlers
Most romantic lyrics: "Just stay for one more dark/ 1 mean solar day you're gonna be my wife/ You'll never take to worry again/ I'one thousand gonna be your man"
Rationale: Information technology sounds lead singer Brooks Nielsen'due south now-married woman was getting really sick of his bullshit, and that he wrote this song as a plea to get her to say. It's poetic, energetic, and hopeful, and it would have worked on me, too, tbh.
"Wouldn't It Be Overnice" - The Beach Boys
Most romantic lyrics: "Wouldn't it exist nice if we were older?/ Then we wouldn't have to wait then long"
Rationale: This is sung from the perspective of someone who's already certain about who he wants to spend the rest of his life with. And he's wishing that the balance of his life could start right now.
"Stay" - Rihanna, Mikky Ekko
Virtually romantic lyrics: "Non actually sure how to feel about information technology/ Somethin' in the mode y'all move/ Makes me feel like I tin can't live without you"
Rationale: Love isn't a formula. There'due south no existent logic to why nosotros fall in honey with some people but not others, and Rihanna hits the nail on the head when she says it's just "something in the way [he] move[s]." It's reminiscent of The Beatles' song "Something." Speaking of which...
"Something" - The Beatles
Most romantic lyrics: "Something in the way she moves / Attracts me like no other lover / Something in the manner she woos me / I don't want to leave her now"
Rationale:This song is a ho-hum, dreamy ode on an otherwise bluesy album. George Harrison was the Beatle who penned it, writing that he wasn't certain what exactly triggered his love or whether it would abound. All he knew was that the dear was at that place, and that that should exist enough.

"Androgynous" - The Replacements
Well-nigh romantic lyrics: "And they love each other so/ Androgynous/ Closer than we know, dearest each other and then/ Androgynous"
Rationale: This song is about two non-binary people falling in love, which is pretty cool for a song from 1984. Our chief characters, archetypically named Dick and Jane, love each other regardless of gender. The Replacements brand a compelling argument almost why traditional gender roles and habiliment should make no deviation if you're truly in dearest with someone.
"I'll Be Seeing Y'all" - Billie Vacation
Near romantic lyrics: "I'll detect yous in the morn sun/ In every lovely summertime's day/ In everything that'south right and gay/ I'll always think of you"
Rationale: Y'all know when you're freshly in love (or heartbroken), and everything reminds yous of that person? That'southward what this song is virtually. Everything around Vacation―the natural globe, a park, a buffet, a carousel―is a fond reminder of her beloved.
"Sunday Candy" - Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment
Most romantic lyrics: "You lot've got to motility information technology slowly/ Accept it in my body like it'south holy/ I've been waiting for you for the whole calendar week/ I've been praying for you, you're my Sun candy"
Rationale: The Social Experiment is the hip hop collective that boasts members such as Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa (the former of which is featured heavily on this song). Jamila Forest performs the chorus to this vocal so sweetly that it'southward easy to forget the sexual implications, and she and Chance tell the story of a couple that spends a week at a time missing each other, absorbed in thoughts of ane some other until they're finally reunited.
"Come Equally You Are" - Nirvana
Nearly romantic lyrics: "Come as y'all are/ As y'all were/ As I want yous to be"
Rationale: There are many interpretations of what this song means, ranging from mental health to friendship to commentary on inauthenticity. But, to me, "Come Every bit You Are" works as the ultimate grunge love song; as a promise to honey and appreciate someone just the way they are.
"Please, Please, Please" - James Dark-brown
Most romantic lyrics: "Babe please, baby please, please me/ Baby please, infant please don't go/ Don't go, I said baby, don't baby/ I love you so"
Rationale: This song is almost entirely comprised of James Brown repeating "please," and, supposedly, he got a lot of flack from his producers about that before its release. But, like the Yeah Yes Yeahs' "Maps," this track's magic lies in the passion with which it'southward delivered–and James Brown is cipher if not passionate.
"I Will Always Love Y'all" - Dolly Parton
Virtually romantic lyrics: "And I hope life will treat yous kind/ And I hope that you take all/ That you ever dreamed of/ Oh, I do wish you joy/ And I wish you happiness/ Simply to a higher place all this/ I wish you love"
Rationale: Without a doubt, you're familiar with Whitney Houston's rendition of "I Will E'er Love You," merely I love Dolly Parton'south soft-spoken, country version also. Where Houston belts, Parton croons, making this a great alternative for when you want to hear this vocal on a quiet evening in.
"Songbird" - Fleetwood Mac
Most romantic lyrics: "And I wish you lot all the love in the earth/ Only nigh of all, I wish it from myself/ And the songbirds keep singing/ Like they know the score"
Rationale: Fleetwood Mac's members were notorious for hooking upwardly inside their ranks, and Christine McVie (author and main singer on this vocal) was no exception. This is a unique love song, because it does unconditional love unlike any other: Information technology illustrates how it'due south entirely possible to honey someone and want the best for them while accepting, albeit sadly, that you might non be that best thing.
"First Day of My Life" - Brilliant Eyes
Most romantic lyrics: "But I realized I demand you lot/ And I wondered if I could come home"
Rationale: This Bright Eyes track makes me wish I was better at playing guitar. Frontman Conor Oberst makes a frank plea for his beloved, telling her, "I'm glad I didn't die before I met you," and asking for permission to approach. It'due south an exercise in startling honesty, and the consequence, like the whole album, is profound.
"Sea of Love" - Cat Ability
Nigh romantic lyrics: "Come with me, my honey/ To the ocean, the bounding main of love/ I wanna tell you lot/ How much I dearest y'all "
Rationale: Originally, the last song on this listing was going to be T.I.'s "Whatever You Like" because I'm determined that it will play at my hymeneals one day (I'm not kidding), but "Ocean of Love" is too romantic to refuse. With minimal instrumentation, True cat Power delivers a brief but heartfelt dear letter whose genius lies in its profound simplicity. 10/10.
